Peter Chin, Tai Chi teacher from Devon, England (www.rainbow-taichi.org.uk), has a dream: gardeners taking responsibility for their starving community members and thereby tackling the problem of world hunger!
His concept is simple: every successful gardener is faced with overproduce of vegetables and fruit at some stage and this surplus needs to be fed to hungry people. Peter has a favourite “fruit-veggie of the heart, body, mind and soul”: the Potimarron, a pumpkin cultivar with a taste between pumpkin (french: potiron) and chestnut (marron).
Peter sends out free seeds to everybody who wants to grow it with the condition to feed the surplus to the hungry and send back the seeds collected from the harvest or share them with neighbours and fellow gardeners.
A first batch of 400 seeds was shared out in January 2008 and a second batch has been sent to SA and has been distributed. To get more seeds, please contact Peter Chin directly via: Peterchin2@btinternet.com.
